Aviation Airframe The airframe program prepares the students to obtain a FAA mechanic certificate with the airframe rating. This rating enables the holder to perform aircraft repair, maintenance, and inspection in the following areas: sheet metal structures composite structures landing gear systems electrical systems cabin atmosphere control systems hydraulic systems ice and rain control systems instrument systems and other related aircraft systems

School Background Information The School was organized in 1941 as an emergency training unit to help fill the void in "ready personnel" to serve the military need during World War II. It became a part of Detroit Public Schools in 1943 as the Aero Mechanics Vocational High School. The school is an approved Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Aviation Maintenance School with Airframe and Powerplant ratings. The name of the school was changed in 1982 to the Benjamin O. Davis, Jr. Aerospace Technical High School. Secondary and post-secondary students are trained at the school. |
